Abstinence Program

The primary objectives of this federal grant project are to help 12-18 year old studentsliving in the State Of Mississippi to abstain from sexual activities until marriage and to maintain healthy, mutually monogamous marriage as adults. Mississippi has the highest rate in the nation of births to teens. Teen mothers are more likely to drop out of school, require long-term financial support, and be involved in child abuse. Unplanned pregnancies account for a majority of the birth among women with family incomes below the poverty level. According to the Mississippi Department of Health, the following data on sexually transmitted diseases (STD) within our area includes:
  • Chlamydia infection rate is reported as the highest STD rate among adolescents
  • An increase in the number of sexually transmitted diseases within the area
  • A high incidence of adolescents involved in sexual activities
Due to the rising sexually transmitted disease rates and teen pregnancy in the State of Mississippi it is time to take action now and become involved in making a difference in the lives of our youth.
